RECYFIX HICAP – environmentally friendly and 'easy to handle'
Another criterion for BAA was the issue of recycling. Airport planning and operation are subject to strict ecological requirements. Products made from recycled plastics are therefore particularly suitable here.
At regular meetings, suppliers to BAA must present product innovations which bring cost savings in installation and maintenance. In 2006, Andy Beirne gave a presentation of RECYFIX HICAP at one of these meetings. The feedback was very positive; BAA recognised the product benefits immediately.
Through HAURATON’s partner, the construction company ADENSTAR, Andy Beirne supplied BAA with current building site reports on the use and success of HiCap in England. At the final meeting, it were the advantages of RECYFIX HICAP (weight, recycled material, stable ductile iron slot) that ultimately decided that the channels should be installed at Heathrow Airport.
It only remains to be mentioned that BAA had previously only used the slotted channel systems of a competitor for around 10 years. Even with the initial project, where RECYFIX HICAP was used, these were enough to impress – not least through the years of preliminary work put in by Andy Beirne.
The following have been installed to date:
- 380 m RECYFIX HICAP 300 with industrial grating (open slot)
- 100 m RECYFIX HICAP 200 with industrial grating (open slot)
- 100 m RECYFIX HICAP 150 with industrial grating (open slot)
In the second construction stage, which will be completed by mid-April 2008, further RECYFIX HICAP channels will be deployed.
