hydraulic performance calculation

When surfaces and their surface drainage are newly planned, a hydraulic performance calculation may be used to determine the dimensions of the drainage system. The objective is to determine the hydraulic parameters of the canal/channel system (e.g. hydraulic capacity factor, flow rate, speed of flow at the channel end). These parameters are determined by various given variables such as the size of the catchment area, the run-off coefficient, the precipitation intensity and any longitudinal fall that may be present. The result of the hydraulic performance calculation provides the values needed for selecting the correct channel size.
