Compressive strength

Compressive strength refers to the resistance of a material to compression. Almost all materials have a different compressive strength. The compressive strength is the quotient of the breaking load over the cross-section area A of a test specimen. Normally this is expressed as force per area (N/mm²). (Source of German text: Wikipedia)
